Connect your Mailchimp account, choose an audience, and map contact fields and consent channels to prepare the connection. Read the current sync limitation below before relying on outbound updates.

If the service is not available yet, enable it on the Integrations overview, then open its Settings.

Connect and choose an audience

  1. Open Integrations → Mailchimp → Connect.
  2. Choose Connect Mailchimp and authorise the connection in Mailchimp.
  3. On return, check the connected account details.
  4. Select an Audience, then choose Set audience.

Changing audiences later removes the previous audience webhook and registers one for the new selection. Confirm the audience before configuring its mappings.

In Merge fields, add mappings from ThirdSectorBee contact fields to Mailchimp merge tags and choose Save mappings. First and last names map to FNAME and LNAME automatically. Add any custom merge fields in Mailchimp first if they are not available to select here.

In Consent mappings, map ThirdSectorBee consent channels to Mailchimp marketing permissions and save. The selected audience needs GDPR marketing permissions enabled in Mailchimp; the app warns when none are available. The integration is intended to combine consent conservatively for contacts sharing an email address, but the current consent-data compatibility issue described below means that behaviour must not be relied on for current contact records.

Verify, pause, or disconnect

Check the selected audience and saved mappings. These screens do not offer a manual full-sync button.

Current limitation: the outbound processor does not fully support the current contact-change and consent formats. Ordinary contact edits can be skipped and consent processing can fail even with a valid connection. Connection and mapping success do not establish that contacts or consent are synchronising. Ask your administrator to investigate the integration before depending on it; verify consent in Mailchimp through your established process.

Pause outbound sync stops contact and consent changes being pushed while preserving the connection and mappings. Disconnect Mailchimp removes the connection and registered webhook and stops sync; it does not delete contact data already in Mailchimp. Read and confirm the disconnect dialog.

Troubleshoot

  • Connection failed: retry Connect Mailchimp and complete authorisation for the intended account.
  • Mappings unavailable: select and save an audience on Connect first.
  • Consent options missing: enable the audience’s GDPR marketing permissions in Mailchimp, then return to Consent mappings.
  • Contact changes missing: check the pause setting and selected audience, then consider the current compatibility limitation; repeatedly editing a contact or remapping fields will not resolve it.
  • Unexpected opt-out for a shared email: review consent on every ThirdSectorBee contact using that email address.
